The samsum ant is {{convert|5|-|6|mm|link=on|abbr=in|frac=16}} in length,{{sfn|Nikbakhtzadeh|Tirgari|Fakoorziba|Alipour|2009|pp=80–82}} and the body is dark brown to black-brown in colour, with the antenna, tarsi and tibia red in colour. They have straight, pretarsal claws with an average claw tip angle of 56 degrees.
