The '''Sanghir squirrel''' ('''''Prosciurillus rosenbergii''''') is a species of rodent in the family Sciuridae.<ref name="Thorington">{{cite book|last1=Thorington|first1=R.W. Jr.|last2=Hoffmann|first2=R.S.|year=2005|pages=754–818|editor1-last=Wilson|editor1-first=D.E.|editor2-last=Reeder|editor2-first=D.M|url=http://www.bucknell.edu/msw3|chapter=Family Sciuridae|chapter-url=https://www.departments.bucknell.edu/biology/resources/msw3/browse.asp?id=12400001|title=Mammal Species of the World: a taxonomic and geographic reference|edition=3rd|publisher=The Johns Hopkins University Press|isbn=0-8018-8221-4|oclc=26158608}}</ref> It is endemic to the volcanic Sangir Islands (where they are the only squirrel) in Indonesia, located just north of the equator in the Celebes Sea, between the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and the island of Mindanao in the Philippines.<ref name="iucn status 12 November 2021" />
==Habitat== This tropical tree squirrel is the most abundant mammal on heavily cultivated Sangir, where it is found throughout the various ecosystems of the island (including towns and farms), but is especially concentrated in the dwindling old-growth lowland tropical rainforest.<ref name="iucn status 12 November 2021" /> Sangir Island has a rich diversity of ecosystems, due to the changing microclimates encountered on the sides of its volcanic peaks, the tallest of which is Mount Awu, at {{convert|1320|m|ft}}. In spite of this environmental diversity, the Sanghir squirrel has adapted itself to each of these climatic zones.<ref name="iucn status 12 November 2021" />
