They are found at reefs at depths of {{convert|40|-|325|m|abbr=on}} in the tropical and subtropical East Pacific and West Atlantic.<ref name=fishbase>{{FishBase genus | genus = Pronotogrammus | month = December | year = 2019}}</ref>
