The feature is named after the ancient Roman road station of Montemno in Northern Bulgaria.<ref name=CGA/>

==Location== Montemno Lake is situated just west of Urvich Wall and centred at {{coord|62|38|41|S|60|58|17|W|display=inline}}, which is 230 m northeast of the larger Oread Lake, 3&nbsp;km northeast of Dometa Point and 3.25&nbsp;km south of Nedelya Point.
