==Career== Gadd was commissioned as an officer in 1906 and was assigned to Göta Artillery Regiment with the rank of ''underlöjtnant''. He attended the Artillery and Engineering College from 1908 to 1909 and the Royal Swedish Army Staff College from 1913 to 1914. Gadd was then assigned to the General Staff as an officer aspirant from 1916 to 1918.<ref name="Bohman & Dahl (1946), pp. 3-4"/> In 1918, Gadd conducted a war history study trip to Kliszów, Poland.<ref name="Harnesk (1945), p. 237"/> He became captain of the General Staff in 1920 and served as a staff adjutant<ref name="Harnesk (1945), p. 237"/> and then as a teacher at the Artillery and Engineering College from 1920 to 1928 when he was promoted to major and appointed head of the General Staff's Organization Department.<ref name="Bohman & Dahl (1946), pp. 3-4"/>
In 1932, Gadd was promoted to lieutenant colonel of the General Staff and appointed senior adjutant.<ref name="Harnesk (1945), p. 237"/> The same year he was appointed Vice Chief of the Military Office of the Land Defence (''Lantförsvarets kommandoexpedition''). In 1935, Gadd was promoted to colonel and assumed the position of regimental commander of Wendes Artillery Regiment in Kristianstad.<ref name="Bohman & Dahl (1946), pp. 3-4"/> Gadd then served as Deputy Division Commander of the 1st Army Division (''I. arméfördelningen'') in Kristianstad and in 1942 he received the corresponding post as Deputy Military Commander of the I Military District.
