They are found at rocky reefs at depths of {{convert|20|-|610|m|abbr=on}} in the tropical and subtropical East Pacific and West Atlantic.<ref name=fishbase>{{FishBase genus | genus = Hemanthias | month = December | year = 2019}}</ref>
