His political career includes affiliations with several parties: PMN (2000–2003), PSC (2003–2006), PP (2006–2015), PROS (2016–2023), Solidariedade (2023–2024), and União Brasil (2024–present). Olarte is also a founding member of the ''Igreja Assembleia de Deus Nova Aliança''.<ref name="campograndenews1" /> Olarte's mayoral term was marred by accusations and legal troubles. He assumed office after the impeachment of Alcides Bernal, but on August 25, 2015, he was removed from office following an investigation by the Special Action Group for Combatting Organized Crime (Gaeco). Olarte and several businessmen were accused of bribing council members to support Bernal's impeachment. In August 2016, Olarte was arrested during the second phase of Operation ADNA, dubbed "Pecúnia." He later resigned from office on September 8, 2016. Olarte is married to Andréia Nunes Zanelato Olarte.
