'''Say Hi''' (previously known as '''Say Hi to Your Mom''') is a Seattle-based indie rock<ref name=Pitchfork/> band formed in Brooklyn in 2002 by Eric Elbogen.<ref>{{Citation |last=Grose |first=Jessica |author-link=Jessica Grose |title=Say Hi To Your Mom |url=https://www.spin.com/2005/06/say-hi-your-mom/ |work=Spin |date=June 8, 2005 |access-date=December 29, 2013}}</ref>

Say Hi's albums are recorded at Elbogen's home,<ref>{{Citation |last=Booth |first=Philip |title=The lineup for Tropical Heatwave 25 |url=http://www.sptimes.com/2006/05/18/Weekend/The_lineup_for_Tropic.shtml |work=St. Petersburg Times |date=May 18, 2006 |access-date=November 24, 2007}}</ref> with him playing all of the instruments & providing vocals.

==Background information== Eric Elbogen was born in 1976 and grew up in San Fernando Valley, California. He attended UCLA.

He moved to Brooklyn, New York & created Say Hi to Your Mom in 2002.<ref>{{Citation |last=Jimenez |first=Jenny |title=Wizard of Blahs |url=http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/wizard-of-blahs/Content?oid=1148193 |work=The Stranger |date=March 3, 2009 |access-date=April 14, 2009}}</ref>

He plays a Fender Jazzmaster guitar.

==History== Elbogen most often tours as a solo act, but occasionally employs friends to accompany him as his backing band.

Their fourth release, ''Impeccable Blahs'', was written almost entirely about vampires,<ref>{{Citation |last=Sanneh |first=Kelefa |title=Critics' Choice: New CD's |work=New York Times |date=July 31, 2006 }}</ref> though ''Star Trek'' is also mentioned.<ref name=Pitchfork>{{Citation |last=Howe |first=Brian |title=Review |work=Pitchfork Media |date=August 10, 2006 }}</ref> The song "Angels and Darlas" is a reference to Angel and Darla from the television series ''Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' and its spinoff ''Angel'' both created by Joss Whedon.

With the release of their fifth album ''The Wishes and the Glitch'', the band shortened their name to "Say Hi".<ref>{{Citation |last=Vermes |first=Krystle |title=Say Hi (To Your Mom): From Blahs to Wishes in 2008 |work=Suffolk Voice |date=October 30, 2007 }}</ref>

This was done because the earlier name reflected an aesthetic that no longer matched the band's tastes.<ref name="Official website FAQ">[ Official website FAQ]</ref>

Say Hi covered The Violent Femmes' "Kiss Off" for American Laundromat Records' charity album "Sing Me To Sleep – Indie Lullabies" in 2010

Elbogen's lyrics are noted as being one of the band's strengths.<ref>{{Citation |last=Blake |first=Embo |title=Review |work=Hybrid Magazine }}</ref>
