'''''Clematoclethra''''' is a genus of plants in the family Actinidiaceae. It contains about 20 species and is endemic to subtropical and temperate regions of central and western China.<ref name=He05>{{cite journal |first1=Zi-Can |last1=He |first2=Jian-Qiang |last2=Li |first3=Qing |last3=Cai |first4=Qing |last4=Wang |title=The cytology of ''Actinidia'', ''Saurauia'', and ''Clematoclethra''(Actinidiaceae) |journal=Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society |volume=147 |issue= 3|pages=369–374 |year=2005 |doi=10.1111/j.1095-8339.2005.00372.x |doi-access=free }}</ref> Monophyly of the group is supported by genetic evidence and also evidence based on the cell biology of members of the genus.<ref name=He05/> Monophyly of the genus is also supported by micromorphological characters of foliar trichomes and by phylogenetic analysis, although the exact evolutionary relationships of this genus with the other two genera of the Actinidiaceae, the ''Actinidia'' and the ''Saurauia'', are not well understood.<ref>{{cite journal |first1=Zican |last1=He |first2=Xiaoyan |last2=Zhang |first3=Yang |last3=Zhong |first4=Li |last4=Ye |title=Phylogenetic relationships of ''Actinidia'' and related genera based on micromorphological characters of foliar trichomes |journal=Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution |volume=47 |issue=6 |pages=627–639 |doi=10.1023/A:1026572524970 |year=2000 |s2cid=43206669 }}</ref>

The floral characteristics of the ''Clematoclethra'' are similar to the other members of the Actinidiaceae. The main floral differences between the ''Clematoclethra'' and the other members of the Actinidiaceae are that members of the ''Clematoclethra'' have 10 stamens instead of numerous stamens, and have a united, hollow, and fluted style as compared to a free style that the other members of the Actinidiaceae have.<ref>{{cite journal |first1=Jennifer A. |last1=Keller |first2=Patrick S. |last2=Herendeen |first3=Peter R. |last3=Crane |title=Fossil flowers and fruits of the Actinidiaceae from the Campanian (Late Cretaceous) of Georgia |journal=American Journal of Botany |volume=83 |issue=4 |pages=528–541 |doi=10.1002/j.1537-2197.1996.tb12733.x |year=1996 }}</ref> ''Clematoclethra'' has been described as being dioecious<ref name=He05/> or having bisexual flowers in the literature.<ref name=eFloras>{{cite web | title=''Clematoclethra'' in Flora of China @ efloras.org | website=eFloras.org Home | url=http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=107314 | access-date=2021-08-26}}</ref>
