It publishes a family of academic chemistry journals, covering a broad range of disciplines.<ref>{{Cite news|url=https://www.chemanager-online.com/en/news-opinions/headlines/chempubsoc-europe-becomes-chemistry-europe|title=ChemPubSoc Europe becomes Chemistry Europe|work=CHEManager International|access-date=8 April 2020}}</ref><ref name=":0">{{Cite web|url=https://www.gdch.de/gdch/aktivitaeten-und-kooperationen/chemistry-europe.html|title=Chemistry Europe – The Chemical Publishing Society in Europe|website=Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker|access-date=8 April 2020}}</ref>

Chemistry Europe was founded on the initiative of the German Chemical Society in 1995. The first journal co-owned by Chemistry Europe was ''Chemistry: A European Journal'' (launched in 1995). In 1998, the ''European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry'' and ''European Journal of Organic Chemistry'' were created with the participation of six European chemical societies.<ref>{{Cite journal|last=Köster|first=Vera|date=2010|title=The Future Builds on the Past|url=http://www.chemistryviews.org/details/ezine/697035/The_Future_Builds_on_the_Past.html|journal=ChemViews|doi=10.1002/chemv.201000010|url-access=subscription}}</ref> Over the years, more societies merged their journals, bringing the total number of societies involved to 16 from 15 different countries (as of 2020).

The Chemistry Europe Fellows Program <ref name=":1">{{Cite web|url=https://www.chemistryviews.org/fellows|title=Chemistry Europe Fellows Program|work=ChemistryViews|access-date=4 January 2025}}</ref> was established in 2015 (as the ChemPubSoc Europe Fellows Program) and is the highest award given by Chemistry Europe. The Fellowship is awarded based on the recipients' support as authors, advisors, guest editors, referees as well as services to their national chemical societies. New Fellows are announced every two years in the run-up to the biannual EuChemS Congress.<ref>{{Cite web|title=Prof. Bas de Bruin named Chemistry Europe Fellow - HIMS - University of Amsterdam|url=https://hims.uva.nl/content/news/2020/04/prof.-bas-de-bruin-named-chemistry-europe-fellow.html|last=Amsterdam|first=Universiteit van|date=2020-06-04|website=hims.uva.nl|language=en|access-date=2020-04-30}}</ref>

The Chemistry Europe Award <ref name=":2">{{Cite web|url=https://www.chemistryviews.org/chemistryeuropeaward|title=Chemistry Europe Award|work=ChemistryViews|access-date=4 January 2025}}</ref> recognizes outstanding contributions to chemistry. The inaugural Chemistry Europe Award was awarded in 2023 to Bert Weckhuysen, Professor at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, “for outstanding achievements and leadership in the field of sustainable chemistry and catalysis research”. <ref>{{Cite journal|last=Köster|first=Vera|date=2010|title=Bert Weckhuysen Awarded the Inaugural Chemistry Europe Award|url=https://www.chemistryviews.org/bert-weckhuysen-awarded-the-inaugural-chemistry-europe-award/|journal=ChemViews}}</ref>
