== History == In the 2011 plans for Phase 2 of the Metro extension, its western terminus was to be at Kengeri, where a train depot was to be built. However, the anticipated site could not be procured and so plans were revised to construct the depot and a further Metro station at Challaghatta.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Lallitha |first=S. |date=3 September 2021 |title=Bengaluru Metro's land issue at Kengeri a boon for Challaghatta |url=https://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/bengaluru/2021/sep/03/bengaluru-metros-land-issue-at-kengeri-a-boon-for-challaghatta-2353559.html |access-date=2023-10-27 |website=The New Indian Express}}</ref> The Karnataka government gave approval for the station in January 2019.<ref>{{Cite news |last=Kidiyoor |first=Suchith |date=2019-04-20 |title=Multi-level parking facility to come up near metro stations |language=en-IN |work=The Hindu |url=https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/multi-level-parking-facility-to-come-up-near-metro-stations/article26901181.ece |access-date=2023-10-27 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20231027224434/https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/multi-level-parking-facility-to-come-up-near-metro-stations/article26901181.ece |archive-date=27 October 2023 |issn=0971-751X}}</ref> The station was scheduled to open by March 2022 but delays put down by an official of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited to "land acquisition issues", complications in building the overhead structure and labour shortages from waves of COVID-19 set back the project.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Lalitha |first=S. |date=21 January 2022 |title=Challaghatta Metro station to be ready for train operations by August |url=https://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/bengaluru/2022/jan/21/challaghatta-metro-station-to-be-ready-for-train-operations-by-august-2409557.html |access-date=2023-10-27 |website=The New Indian Express}}</ref>

Challaghatta is the smallest of the Phase I and II Bengaluru Metro stations and unlike the others, this metro station has no concourse. The distance from the train to the stairs and escalators is half that found at most other Metro stations. The station has two each of staircases, lifts and escalators. It is anticipated that between five and six hundred travellers will use the station daily.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Geetha |date=15 June 2022 |title=ಚಲ್ಲಘಟ್ಟ ಮೆಟ್ರೋ ಕಾಮಗಾರಿ ಶೇ.40ರಷ್ಟು ಪೂರ್ಣ! (tr. Shortly after opening, access to the station was criticised by students at nearby colleges, who must cross a busy road to reach the entrance. A pedestrian bridge over the road scheduled for construction by National Highways Authority of India has been delayed.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Lalitha |first=S. |date=11 October 2023 |title=Students risk lives to reach Challaghatta Metro station |url=https://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/bengaluru/2023/oct/11/students-risk-lives-to-reach-challaghatta-metro-station-2622814.html |access-date=2023-10-26 |website=The New Indian Express}}</ref><ref>{{Cite news |last=B.P |first=Darshan Devaiah |date=2024-04-17 |title=Namma Metro to construct pedestrian bridge at Challaghatta station in Bengaluru |url=https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/namma-metro-to-construct-pedestrian-bridge-at-challaghatta-station-in-bengaluru/article68071977.ece |access-date=2024-04-17 |work=The Hindu |language=en-IN |issn=0971-751X}}</ref>

According to estate agents, the station has led to a significant increase in property prices in the area.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Prakash |first=V L |date=21 October 2023 |title=BM Property: Property boost: Kudos to metro connectivity |url=https://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.com/bangalore/others/bm-property-property-boost-kudos-to-metro-connectivity/articleshow/104593086.cms |access-date=2023-10-28 |website=Bangalore Mirror |language=en}}</ref>
