The '''walaycho''' (hispanicized spelling ''hualaycho'', also ''walaychu'') is a small lute-like fretted stringed instrument, the smallest member of the charango family. It is the same or similar to the ''maulincho''. The ''walaychu'' along with the charango and its variations are believed to have been born around Cerro Rico of Potosí located in Bolivia.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.chalenavasquez.com/almacen/libros/CHARANGo.pdf|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190714184344/http://www.chalenavasquez.com/almacen/libros/CHARANGo.pdf|url-status=usurped|archive-date=July 14, 2019|format=PDF|title=Charango|website=Chalenavasquez.com|access-date=20 April 2021}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=https://stringedinstrumentdatabase.aornis.com/w.htm|title=The Stringed Instrument Database: W-Z|website=Stringedinstrumentdatabase.aornis.com|access-date=20 April 2021}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.charangosforsale.com/Walaychos|title=福建快3一定牛今天的:排列五走势图|website=Charangosforsale.com|access-date=20 April 2021}}</ref><ref>[https://www.amazon.com/Walaycho-Chord-Bible-Standard-Fretted/dp/190620747X] {{dead link|date=April 2021}}</ref><ref>https://atlasofpluckedinstruments.com/south_america.htm ATLAS of Plucked Instruments - South America</ref>

The word ''walaychu'' is Quechua meaning 'a lazy man, someone who always lays on the ground everywhere. In addition to this, an evil man'. It's a colloquial word in Bolivia for a small charango variant. {{citation needed|date=August 2018}}
