{{Short description|Former electronic trading platform}} '''SWX Europe''', formerly '''virt-x''' (virt-x Exchange Limited) and '''Tradepoint''', was an electronic cross-border share trading platform that operated between 1995 and 2009. In 2009 all business was transferred to its owner SIX Swiss Exchange.<ref name="swx1">{{Cite web |date=2023-05-16 |title=The Future of Finance Is Now |url=https://www.six-group.com/en/home.html |access-date=2023-05-30 |website=SIX |language=en}}</ref>
==History== Tradepoint Investment Exchange was founded by three former employees of London Stock Exchange in 1995. It was an order-driven market, and was known as ''Tradepoint''. As a Recognised Investment Exchange (RIE) based in London, it was supervised by the UK's Financial Services Authority (FSA).<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/tradepoint-challenges-stock-exchange-1602181.html|title=Tradepoint challenges Stock Exchange|website=Independent.co.uk|date=22 October 2011}}</ref>
In late 2002, it became the subject of a takeover offer by the Swiss exchange, SWX. The sale was completed and at that point it became a wholly owned subsidiary of that group. To reflect the new owner the name was changed to Virt-x which was short for virtual exchange.<ref>{{cite news |url=http://www.waterstechnology.com/sell-side-technology/feature/1628773/tradepoint-merges-with-swx-form-virt |title=Tradepoint Merges With SWX to Form Virt-x |date=July 24, 2000 |publisher=waterstechnology }}</ref><ref>{{Cite web|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/826131.stm|title = BBC News | BUSINESS | Tradepoint, Swiss launch exchange}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title=Best trading platforms |url=http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_The_future__of_financial_services.pdf |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181024175636/http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_The_future__of_financial_services.pdf |archive-date=2018-10-24 |access-date=2018-11-03 |publisher=How will the empowerment of individuals through automated systems and social networks transform the business of investment management? |url-status=bot: unknown }}</ref>
In early 2008, virt-x formally changed its name to SWX Europe.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.swxeurope.com/media_releases/online/media_release_200803030725_en.pdf|url-status=dead|title= virt-x changes its name to SWX Europe|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090320173227/www.swxeurope.com/media_releases/online/media_release_200803030725_en.pdf|archive-date=2009-03-20}}</ref>
