{{Short description|Group of industry-specific institutions}} {{for|the fictional company set in the Resident Evil videogame series|Umbrella Corporation}} An '''umbrella organization''' is an association of (often related, industry-specific) institutions who work together formally to coordinate activities and/or pool resources. In business, political, and other environments, it provides resources and identities to the smaller organizations. In this kind of arrangement, it is sometimes responsible, to some degree, for the groups under its care.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Legal |first1=US |title=Umbrella Organization Law and Legal Definition {{!}} USLegal, Inc. |url=https://definitions.uslegal.com/u/umbrella-organization/ |access-date=5 February 2018 |website=definitions.uslegal.com}}</ref> Umbrella organizations are prominent in cooperatives<ref name=":0">{{Cite journal |last1=Ortiz |first1=Rosalba |last2=Peris |first2=Jordi |date=January 2021 |title=The Role of Farmers' Umbrella Organizations in Building Transformative Capacity around Grassroots Innovations in Rural Agri-Food Systems in Guatemala |journal=Sustainability |language=en |volume=14 |issue=5 |pages=2695 |doi=10.3390/su14052695 |doi-access=free |issn=2071-1050|hdl=10251/199935 |hdl-access=free }}</ref> and in civil society, and can engage in advocacy or collective bargaining on behalf of their members.<ref>{{Citation |last=Melville |first=Rose |title=Umbrella Organizations |date=2010 |encyclopedia=International Encyclopedia of Civil Society |pages=1577–1582 |editor-last=Anheier |editor-first=Helmut K. |url=https://doi.org/10.1007/978-0-387-93996-4_628 |access-date=2024-04-28 |place=New York, NY |publisher=Springer US |language=en |doi=10.1007/978-0-387-93996-4_628 |isbn=978-0-387-93996-4 |editor2-last=Toepler |editor2-first=Stefan|url-access=subscription }}</ref><ref name=":0" />
