'''StartX''' is a non-profit startup accelerator and founder community associated with Stanford University.

It was founded by Cameron Teitelman and Dan Ha in 2011.<ref>{{Cite news |title= Stanford 'Accelerator' Nurtures Start-Ups |date= October 13, 2011 |work= Wall Street Journal online |url= https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052970203633104576621571511894728 }}<!-- Behind pay wall --></ref><ref>{{Cite news |title= Stanford students, alumni help each other with their startup dreams |author= Max McClure |work= Stanford Report |date= September 1, 2011 |url= http://news.stanford.edu/news/2011/september/startx-company-startups-090111.html |accessdate= September 11, 2013 }}</ref><ref>{{Cite news |title= StartX Launches The Best Of Stanford Startups |work= Forbes |date= June 2, 2011 |author= Tomio Geron |url= https://www.forbes.com/sites/tomiogeron/2011/06/02/startx-launches-the-best-of-stanford-startups/ |accessdate= September 11, 2013 }}</ref> It began as a spin-off of Stanford Student Enterprises, the non-profit financial arm of the Associated Students of Stanford University, which sponsored earlier events called SSE Labs in 2009 and then SSE Ventures.<ref>{{Cite web |title= About Stanford Student Enterprises |work= Website |url= http://sse.stanford.edu/about |accessdate= September 11, 2013 }}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |title= SSE Ventures is Now SSE Labs |work= Website |publisher= Stanford Student Enterprises |url= http://sse.stanford.edu/category/division/sse-ventures |accessdate= September 11, 2013 }}</ref> The StartX accelerator differentiates itself from other accelerators in Silicon Valley, such as Y Combinator, in that it is an educational non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that takes no equity in the companies it helps start.<ref name="sse">{{Cite news |title= Stanford Students Build Their Own Y Combinator |date= June 10, 2010|work= Tech Crunch |url= https://techcrunch.com/2010/06/10/sse-labs/ |accessdate= September 11, 2013 }}</ref>
