{{Short description|Military rank}} {{Use dmy dates|date=April 2022}} '''Second corporal''' is a military rank, used in some countries.

==National use== {{Unreferenced|section|date=December 2009}} ===Portugal=== Second corporal ({{langx|pt|segundo cabo}}) is an enlisted rank of the army and the air force. Its rank insignia is a single chevron. The rank is immediately below first corporal ({{lang|pt|primeiro cabo}}). The rank of second corporal was created in the late 19th century to replace the former rank of lance-corporal ({{lang|pt|anspeçada}}).

===United Kingdom=== Second corporal was a former rank in the Royal Engineers and Army Ordnance Corps of the British Army. Second corporals wore one rank chevron like lance-corporals, but unlike the latter, which was an appointment, they held full non-commissioned officer rank. They were thus equivalent to bombardiers in the Royal Artillery. The rank was abolished in 1920.<ref name="Dawnay 1949">{{cite book |last=Dawnay |first=N.P. |date=1949 |title=The Badges of Warrant and Non-Commissioned Rank in the British Army |url=https://archive.org/details/001aTheBadgesOfWarrantOfficersAndNonCommissionedOfficersInTheBritishArmy1949_201902/001.jpg |location=London |publisher=The Society for Army Historical Research |pages= |isbn= |access-date=14 August 2025}}</ref>
