The '''iPhone Air''' is a smartphone developed and marketed by Apple. Part of the nineteenth generation of the iPhone, it was announced alongside the lower-priced iPhone 17 and the higher-priced iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max during the Apple Event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, on September 9, 2025. The iPhone Air replaces the Plus series in the iPhone line-up and is an option focused on lightweight design and enhanced features.<ref name="Apple">{{Cite web |date=September 9, 2025 |title=Introducing iPhone Air, a powerful new iPhone with a breakthrough design |url=https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/introducing-iphone-air-a-powerful-new-iphone-with-a-breakthrough-design/ |access-date=September 9, 2025 |publisher=Apple Inc. |archive-date=September 9, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250909182618/https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/introducing-iphone-air-a-powerful-new-iphone-with-a-breakthrough-design/ |url-status=live }}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |date=September 9, 2025 |first=Hartley |last=Charlton |title=Apple Announces iPhone Air With Ultra-Thin Design |url=https://www.macrumors.com/2025/09/09/apple-announces-iphone-air/ |access-date=September 9, 2025 |website=MacRumors |archive-date=September 10, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250910124733/https://www.macrumors.com/2025/09/09/apple-announces-iphone-air/ |url-status=live }}</ref> With a depth of {{cvt|5.6|mm|in|abbr=on}}, it is the thinnest iPhone ever made, surpassing the {{cvt|6.9|mm|in|abbr=on}} thick iPhone 6; this excludes the top of the phone with a depth of {{cvt|11.3|mm|in|abbr=on}}.

== Specifications ==

=== Chipset === The iPhone Air features the A19 Pro system-on-chip (SoC) with a 6-core {{abbr|CPU|Central processing unit}}, 5-core {{abbr|GPU|Graphics processing unit}}, and a 16-core Neural Engine. It uses the new Apple-designed C1X modem<ref>{{cite news|url=https://9to5mac.com/2025/09/09/apple-debuts-new-c1x-in-house-modem-the-successor-to-c1/|title=Apple debuts new C1X in-house modem, the successor to C1|date=September 9, 2025|access-date=September 9, 2025|author=Christoffel, Ryan|work=9to5Mac|archive-date=September 9, 2025|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250909182935/https://9to5mac.com/2025/09/09/apple-debuts-new-c1x-in-house-modem-the-successor-to-c1/|url-status=live}}</ref> and N1 networking chips, part of a trend by Apple to reduce reliance on third-party chip suppliers.<ref name="Roth"/> The N1 chip includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.

=== Display === The iPhone Air has a {{convert|6.5|in|sing=on}} Super Retina XDR OLED display with 3000 nits peak brightness and a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The display has a resolution of 2736×1260 at 460 pixels per inch. It has always-on functionality and adjusts down to 1 Hz when not in use.<ref name="Apple"/>

=== Camera === The iPhone Air features a 48 MP Fusion camera system with a single lens.<ref name="Apple" /> As it lacks an ultrawide lens, it does not have a macrophotography mode and cannot take spatial photos.

The front of the device features an 18 MP Center Stage camera. The front camera has the first square sensor on an iPhone, which enables expanding the field of view or rotating from portrait to landscape orientation for group shots, independent of the device orientation.<ref>{{Cite web |title=iPhone Air - Technical Specifications |url=https://www.apple.com/iphone-air/specs/ |access-date=September 11, 2025 |publisher=Apple Inc. |archive-date=September 11, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250911005429/https://www.apple.com/iphone-air/specs/ |url-status=live }}</ref>

=== Charging and transfer speeds === The device is equipped with a USB-C port that supports USB 2.0 speeds and charging; however, unlike other USB-C iPhone models, it does not support DisplayPort video output.<ref>{{cite web |title=iPhone Air - Technical Specifications |url=https://www.apple.com/iphone-air/specs/ |publisher=Apple Inc. |access-date=12 December 2025 |archive-date=September 11, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250911192859/https://www.apple.com/iphone-air/specs/ |url-status=live }}</ref>

=== Connectivity === All iPhone Air units support eSIM, and are sold without physical SIM card support worldwide.<ref>{{Cite web |last=Mehta |first=Ivan |date=September 9, 2025 |access-date=September 10, 2025 |title=iPhone 17 Air will be eSIM only worldwide |url=https://techcrunch.com/2025/09/09/iphone-17-air-will-be-esim-only-worldwide/ |website=TechCrunch |archive-date=September 9, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250909210728/https://techcrunch.com/2025/09/09/iphone-17-air-will-be-esim-only-worldwide/ |url-status=live }}</ref> Previously, models without physical SIM card support (starting with the iPhone 14 series) had been sold only in the United States; the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro continue this trend by offering physical SIM card support in models sold outside the US.

According to ''ifanr'', Apple created the eSIM Carrier Activation feature to meet China's regulatory requirement of in-person eSIM activation. This involves an NFC reader at carrier stores to obtain device info after identity verification, after which the phone will automatically download and activate the pre-configured eSIM. Apple's Mathias added that eSIM Quick Transfer will be launched in mainland China, which will allow users to move eSIMs to new devices without returning to the store.<ref>{{Cite web |last=爱范儿 |date=2025-10-18 |title=专访Apple eSIM团队:有更多空间,就有更多创新 |url=https://www.huxiu.com/article/4793790.html |access-date=2025-10-21 |website=虎嗅网 |language=en}}</ref>

=== Security === Starting with all iPhone 17 models and the iPhone Air, devices based on the A19 and A19 Pro include Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE).<ref name="AppleMIE">{{cite web |title=Memory Integrity Enforcement: A complete vision for memory safety in Apple devices |url=https://security.apple.com/blog/memory-integrity-enforcement/ |website=Apple Security Research |publisher=Apple Inc. |date=September 9, 2025 |access-date=September 10, 2025 |archive-date=September 10, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250910001905/https://security.apple.com/blog/memory-integrity-enforcement/ |url-status=live }}</ref><ref name="MacRumorsMIE">{{cite web |last=Hardwick |first=Tim |title=iPhone 17 Introduces 'Groundbreaking' New Memory Security Feature |url=https://www.macrumors.com/2025/09/10/iphone-17-new-memory-security-feature/ |website=MacRumors |date=September 10, 2025 |access-date=September 10, 2025 |archive-date=September 10, 2025 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250910135201/https://www.macrumors.com/2025/09/10/iphone-17-new-memory-security-feature/ |url-status=live }}</ref> MIE is an always-on, hardware-and-OS, memory-safety defense that uses Apple's secure memory allocators, Enhanced Memory Tagging Extension (EMTE) in synchronous mode, and Tag Confidentiality Enforcement policies.<ref name="AppleMIE" /> By default, MIE hardens key attack surfaces including the kernel and over 70 userland processes while preserving performance.<ref name="AppleMIE" /> Apple states that MIE targets mercenary spyware by making end-to-end exploit chains significantly more expensive and difficult to develop and maintain.<ref name="AppleMIE" />
