Envelopes with security features are called '''security envelopes''' as well as security bags. Cash for deposit in a bank is often placed in a special '''deposit bag''' with security features.<ref>{{cite web |title=Sealed Bag deposit Process |publisher=Northwestern University |date=2016 |url=http://ffra.northwestern.edu/documents/training/gl/740/course/SealedBagDepositProcess.pdf |access-date=2019-04-07 |archive-date=2019-04-07 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190407200413/http://ffra.northwestern.edu/documents/training/gl/740/course/SealedBagDepositProcess.pdf |url-status=dead }}</ref><ref>{{cite web |title=Preparing and Packaging Cash Vault Deposits | last =Bank of America |publisher=Harvard University | date =2015 |url=http://otm.finance.harvard.edu/files/otm/files/deposit_preparation_guide.pdf }} </ref> When they are used to contain items related to a crime, special '''evidence bags''' are used.<ref>{{cite journal | last = Warrington | first = D | date = April 1, 2008 | title = Evidence Packaging | url = https://www.forensicmag.com/article/2008/04/evidence-packaging | journal = Forensics | archive-date = December 31, 2016 | access-date = April 7, 2019 | archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20161231015949/http://www.forensicmag.com/article/2008/04/evidence-packaging | url-status = dead }}</ref> Authentication of signatures and chain of custody are often required.
==Construction== Security bags or envelopes may be specially designed plastic bags, paper bags, or fabric bags. Bags or envelopes can be made to be tamper resistant to make it difficult for unauthorized entry. It is often more important for these to be tamper evident so that an unauthorized entry is easily detected to have occurred.
Bags and envelopes are often closed by an integral pressure sensitive adhesive on the closing flap. The removal of a release liner allows convenient closing of the bag. Several types of security features can be included in the flap structure and are designed to indicate its opening irreversibly.<ref>{{cite patent|country=US|number=2006066096|title=Adhesive tape structure for sealing and keeping secrecy|pubdate=2006-03-30|status=application|inventor1-last=Kan|inventor1-first=Shen-Nan}}, now abandoned.</ref><ref>{{cite patent|country=US|number=5918983|title=Security envelope|pubdate=1999-07-06|assign=Control Paper Co. Separate security tapes are also used. Tamper-indicating security seals employ a variety of mechanisms for operation, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Documentation such as labels for certified signatures for custody and chain-of-custody labels are frequently included.
==Use== No one security feature can be considered as "tamper proof".<ref>{{Citation | last = Rosette | first = J L | chapter = Tamper-Evident Packaging | year =2009 | editor-last = Yam | editor-first = K L | title = Encyclopedia of Packaging Technology | publisher = Wiley | publication-date = 2010 | isbn = 978-0-470-08704-6 }}</ref> Layers of tamper-resistant and tamper-evident features, as well as the broader security systems are needed to provide better assurance of security. All security products can be foiled by a knowledgeable person with sufficient time and with access to specialized tools, solvents, extreme temperatures,<ref>{{cite patent|country=US|number=5798169|title=Self-containing tamper evident seal|pubdate=1998-08-25|assign=Sealed Air Corp.|inventor1-last=Smith|inventor1-first=Christopher A.}}</ref> other security bags, security tapes, etc.
==Faraday Bag==
When electronic devices, cell phones, media storage, etc. are collected as evidence in a criminal investigation, faraday bags can be used to prevent damage or adulteration. As a Faraday cage, these have electromagnetic shielding to prevent electronic access to contents.<ref>{{Citation | last = Lennox-Steele | first = A | title = A forensic examination of several mobile device Faraday bags & materials to test their effectiveness | publisher = Proceedings of 14th Australian Digital Forensics Conference, 5-6 December 2016, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia | publication-date = 2016 | url = https://ro.ecu.edu.au/adf/165/ }}</ref><ref>{{Citation | last = Senol | first = Nurettin Selcuk | title = Mobile Forensic Investigation: Extractions and Connectivity Isolation in Phones Utilizing eSIM, iSIM Technology | publisher = IEEE 12th International Symposium on Digital Forensics and Security (ISDFS) | publication-date = 2024 | url = https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Nurettin-Senol-2/publication/380612729_Mobile_Forensic_Investigation_Extractions_and_Connectivity_Isolation_in_Phones_Utilizing_eSIM_iSIM_Technology/links/66467dff479366623af36eda/Mobile-Forensic-Investigation-Extractions-and-Connectivity-Isolation-in-Phones-Utilizing-eSIM-iSIM-Technology.pdf }}</ref>
