==Club career== After playing for [[RK Crvenka|Crvenka]], Portner joined Yugoslav champions [[RK Metaloplastika|Metaloplastika]], becoming a member of the squad that won consecutive [[EHF Champions League|European Cup]] titles ([[1984–85 European Cup (handball)|1984–85]] and [[1985–86 European Cup (handball)|1985–86]]). He also won six consecutive [[Yugoslav Handball Championship|national championships]] with the club.
