'''''Zecicindela''''' is a genus of tiger beetles endemic to New Zealand. It is in the Cicindelini tribe, along with another New Zealand genus, ''Neocicindela''. It is similar to ''Neocicindela'', but can be separated by the shape of the labrum and the presence of hairs on the clypeus, frons, genae and pronotum. ''Zecicindela'' live on riverbanks and the seashore, while ''Neocicindela'' may live away from water.<ref name="Larochelle20133">{{Cite journal |last1=Larochelle |first1=A |last2=Larivière |first2=M-C |date=2013 |title=Carabidae (Insecta: Coleoptera): synopsis of species, Cicindelinae to Trechinae (in part) |url=https://www.biotaxa.org/fnz/article/view/fnz.69 |journal=Fauna of New Zealand |volume=69 |doi=10.7931/J2/FNZ.69 |issn=1179-7193}}</ref>

== Taxonomy == The ''Zecicindela'' genus was created in 2013 following a 2011 genetics study which provided strong evidence that the ''Neocicindela'' genus should be split in two.<ref name="Pons">{{Cite journal |last1=Pons |first1=J |last2=Fujisawa |first2=T |last3=Claridge |first3=E M |last4=Savill |first4=A R |last5=Barraclough |first5=T G |last6=Vogler |first6=A P |date=2011 |title=Deep mtDNA subdivision within Linnean species in an endemic radiation of tiger beetles from New Zealand (genus ''Neocicindela'') |url=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S1055790311000625 |journal=Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution |volume=59 |issue=2 |pages=251–262 |bibcode=2011MolPE..59..251P |doi=10.1016/j.ympev.2011.02.013 |pmid=21338699}}</ref><ref name="Larochelle20133" /> The name ''Zecicindela'' is derived from "Ze-" (for "New Zealand") and "Cicindela" (the type genus of Cicindelini).<ref name="Larochelle20133" />

The combined sequences of cytochrome oxidase I, cytochrome b and 16S rRNA found that ''Zecicindela'' formed a clade (group of organisms that comprise all descendants of a common ancestor) that was distinct and separate from ''Neocicindela''.

==Species== As of November 2024, it contains ten species, all endemic to New Zealand.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Zecicindela Larochelle & Larivière, 2013 |url=https://www.gbif.org/species/8219331 |access-date=2024-11-01 |website=www.gbif.org |language=en}}</ref>
