==Taxonomy== Zebrasomini was first proposed as a taxon in 1933 by American ichthyologist Richard Winterbottom, Winterbottom delineated it as consisting of the two genera ''Zebrasomus'' and ''Paracanthurus'', alongside the monotypic tribe Prionurini and with the remaining two Acanthurine genera, ''Acanthurus'' and ''Ctenochaetus'', being classified in the tribe Acanthurini.<ref name = Winterbottom>{{cite journal|author=Richard Winterbottom |year=1993 |title=Myological Evidence for the Phylogeny of Recent Genera of Surgeonfishes (Percomorpha, Acanthuridae), with Comments on the Acanthuroidei |journal=Copeia |volume=1993 |issue=1 |pages=21–39|doi=10.2307/1446292 |jstor=1446292 }}</ref> These tribes make up the subfamily Acanthurinae which with the subfamily Nasinae make up the family Acanthuridae.<ref name = Nelson5/>
