Named by the [[United Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee]] (UK-APC) in 1963 for [[Thomas Woodfield]], [[Chief mate|First Officer]] of RRS [[Hydrographic Survey Unit]] in the survey of this area in 1963.
