==Playing career== Mills was signed by Aberdeen from Junior club Bridgeton Waverley in 1932.<ref name = "afc">{{cite news|url=http://www.afc.co.uk/articles/20070213/willie-mills_2212041_980517|title=Willie Mills |work=afc.co.uk |publisher=Aberdeen FC |date=13 February 2007 |accessdate=9 September 2012}}</ref> He entered their first team almost immediately, aged 17.<ref name = "afc"/> Mills was primarily a creative player, but also scored frequently and was the club's top goalscorer in the 1933–34 season.<ref name = "afc"/>
He was transferred to Huddersfield Town in March 1938 for £6,500.<ref name = "afc"/> Mills did not stay long in English football, however, as the Second World War curtailed league play.<ref name = "afc"/> After the war concluded he played in the Highland Football League for Lossiemouth and Huntly.<ref name = "afc"/>
