William Haighton Chappel

Chappel was the eldest son of Rev. William Pester Chappel, Rector of Camborne and Canon of Truro Cathedral.<ref>{{alox2|title=Chappel, William Pester}}</ref> He was educated at Marlborough College and Worcester College, Oxford, matriculating on 16 October 1879 and being awarded a scholarship.<ref>{{alox2|title=Chappel, William Haighton}}</ref> Graduating B.A. in classics in 1883 (M.A. 1887), Chappel graduated from Theological College in 1884, and was ordained in 1888.<ref name="MCReg">{{cite book|title=Marlborough College Register|date=1905 |url=https://archive.org/stream/marlboroughcoll00collgoog#page/n333/mode/2up/search/Chappel|edition=5th|page=278|publisher=[Oxford] [H. Chappel was Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Worcester 1902<ref name="MCReg"/>–1905, and to the Bishop of Birmingham 1905–1909, and became a Canon of Worcester Cathedral in 1907.{{Citation needed|date=May 2019}} When Huyshe Yeatman-Biggs, Bishop of Worcester, was translated to become the first bishop of the newly revived see of Coventry in 1918, he persuaded Chappel to accompany him as the first Sub-Dean.<ref>{{cite web|website=King's School Worcester|title=From the Archives: History of Chappel House|date=May 2020 |url=https://www.ksw.org.uk/from-the-archives-history-of-chappel-house/|access-date=9 October 2020}}</ref> Chappel was appointed Sub-Dean and Vicar of Coventry Cathedral in 1918, and in 1919 Rural Dean of Coventry and Vicar of Stivichall in plurality.<ref>{{Who's Who | title=Chappel, William Haighton | id = U195346 | type = was | volume = 1920–2016 | edition = June 2018 online | access-date = 16 June 2018 }}</ref>

On 19 April 1892, Chappel married Gertrude Mary Carnsew, daughter of the late Rev.
