==Early life== Wasantha Wittachchi was born on 21 December 1959 in Colombo as the youngest of the family. His father from Bentara was a police officer and mother was a teacher. Wittachchi was married to his longtime partner Anula Hapugoda.<ref name= bio /> He met Anula at a workshop at the Russian Sri Lanka Friendship Centre. Anula is a retired teacher in charge of art, drama and dancing at the St Mary’s Kandana. Apart from that, she also acted in the teledramas such as: ''Yasorawaya'', ''Sannali'' as well as in the stage plays: ''Ekathipathi'', ''Makarashya'', ''Trojen Kanthawo'', ''Yaksha Gamanaya'', ''Ath'', ''Mora'' and ''Senehe Bara Dottie''. Outside Lionel Wendt, he studied drama and theatre in the workshops conducted by Dr. Solomon Fonseka and several overseas teachers such as: Frank Jungmann, Frederick Doff, Wolf of Mehrin Fix Benefits and Herina Lechchimati. With that, Wittachchi got the opportunity to participate in the Asian Young Dramatists' Conference held in Finland in 1983.<ref name= vitta /><ref name= bio />

His first teledrama acting came through the teleplay ''Kada Ima'' directed by Niriella.<ref name= bio /> Then he played the popular role "Uncle Norris" in the serial ''Bumuthurunu'' and later in the serials ''Thara Devi'', ''Danḍubasnāmānaya'' and ''Veda Hāminē''.<ref name= vitta /><ref name= wasantha /> In 2012, he won the Award for the Best Makeup as well as Best Supporting Actor at the State Tele Awards for the serial ''Arungal''.<ref name= vittachchi />
His maiden cinema acting came through the film ''Siri Medura'' in 1989. ==Death== Wittachchi suffered from an illness for a long time and had to take frequent medications.
