Barfoot was educated at Wycliffe College<ref>[http://www.mhs.mb.ca/docs/people/barfoot_wf.shtml Manitoba Historical Society]</ref> and ordained in 1923. He was a tutor at the College of Emmanuel and St. Chad Saskatoon and then a professor at St John's College, Winnipeg.<ref>"Who was Who" 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 {{ISBN|978-0-19-954087-7}}</ref> He became Bishop of Edmonton in 1941<ref>Crockford's Clerical Directory1947-48 Oxford, OUP, 1947</ref> and Primate of All Canada a decade later. Elected Metropolitan of Rupert's Land in 1953.<ref>The Times, 9 October 1953; pg. 7; Issue 52748; col F, ''News in Brief''</ref> He retired in 1959 and died in 1978.
