Ambidextrous, he started playing for Porto, but spent most of his professional career with PAOK and Wolfsburg. On 12 May 2018, a free kick from captain Vieirinha helped the club overcome AEK Athens in the final of the Greek Cup at the Olympic Stadium, a 2–0 victory to help renew the supremacy in that tournament.
