Ur-gar was a son-in-law of Ur-Baba, and succeeded Ur-Ningirsu II<ref name="GL171"/><ref>{{cite web |title=CDLI-Archival View |url=https://cdli.ucla.edu/search/archival_view.php?ObjectID=P432049 |website=cdli.ucla.edu}}</ref><ref name="Hansen"/> Several votive inscriptions are known of him.<ref name="GL171"/> He was succeeded by the last ruler of the Second Dynasty of Lagash, Nam-mahani.<ref name="GL171"/>
