'''Toba Regency''' is a landlocked regency in North Sumatra. Its seat is Balige. The regency covers an area of 2,021.8 square kilometres; it had a population of 173,129 at the 2010 census<ref name="Biro Pusat Statistik 2011">Biro Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2011.</ref> and 206,199 at the 2020 Census;<ref name="Badan Pusat Statistik 2021">Badan Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2021.</ref> the official estimate as of mid 2025 was 219,580 (comprising 109,884 males and 109,696 females).<ref name="Badan Pusat Statistik 2026">Badan Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 27 February 2026, ''Kabupaten Toba Dalam Angka 2026'' (Katalog-BPS 1102001.1206)</ref> Although landlocked, the regency includes the eastern shore of the vast inland Lake Toba.

==Orchid Paradise== Two scientists explored the Eden Park tourist forest in Sionggang village in Toba Regency for four years and have successfully identified almost 200 new species of forest orchids. ==Sigura-Gura waterfall== Sigura-gura waterfall, which is the highest waterfall in Indonesia at {{convert|250|m|ft}} tall, is located {{convert|250|km|mi}} from Medan or a 2 to 3 hour long drive.
