He was born in New York, United States.<ref name="LarkinGE"/> Kahn began playing drums at age 15.<ref name="LarkinGE"/> He played with Boyd Raeburn (1948), Georgie Auld, Chubby Jackson, and Charlie Barnet (1949),<ref name="LarkinGE"/> and played drums and vibraphone under Elliot Lawrence (1952–53).<ref name="AMG">{{Cite web|url=https://www.allmusic.com/artist/tiny-kahn-mn0000930062/biography|title=Tiny Kahn Biography, Songs, & Albums|website=AllMusic|access-date=19 September 2021}}</ref> He also performed and recorded with Red Rodney, Serge Chaloff, Lester Young, Al Cohn, and Stan Getz.<ref name="AMG"/>
He worked with many of the ensembles he played in as an arranger, and also arranged for Woody Herman and Elliot Lawrence.<ref name="LarkinGE"/> He composed "Tiny's Blues" and "Father Knickerbopper" among other tunes.
