'''The Snickleway Inn''' is a Grade II* listed pub, in the city centre of York, in England.
The pub lies on Goodramgate, next to the Wealden Hall. The oldest part is the front section of the building, constructed about 1500, at the same time as the neighbouring hall. It is three storeys tall and four bays wide. In the 17th century, a wing was added, and in the mid-19th century, this was altered, while the building was refronted. To the rear, there is an outbuilding, which was constructed in about 1600, and has been extensively rebuilt in several phases. The whole building is timber-framed throughout, with some brick infill, while the front is plastered over.<ref name="historic">{{NHLE|desc=The Anglers Arms and attached buildings at rear |num=1257742 |access-date=2 August 2021}}</ref><ref name="inventory">{{cite book |title=An Inventory of the Historical Monuments in City of York, Volume 5, Central |year=1981 |publisher=HMSO |location=London |url=https://www.british-history.ac.uk/rchme/york/vol5/pp135-148 |access-date=7 August 2020}}</ref> thumb|The sign above the entrance The building has been used as a pub from at least the 18th century. It was originally named the "Painters' Arms", then successively became the "Square and Compasses" ({{circa|1818}}), the "Mason's Arms" (c. 1823), "The Board" (c. 1841) and the "Joiner's Arms" (c. 1851). By 1872, it was renamed as the "Anglers' Arms". In 1994, while Frank Cartin was the landlord, it was renamed as "The Snickleway Inn", referencing the snickelways of York, but deliberately misspelling the word, to avoid copyright issues.<ref name="pubs">{{cite web |title=Historic Inns and Pubs of York |url=http://yorkcivictrust.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/Pub-Tour-Historic-Inns-and-Pubs-YorkWalk.pdf |website=York Civic Trust |access-date=10 August 2020}}</ref><ref>{{cite news |last=Ross |first=Alex |title=Tributes are paid to York publican Frank Cartin |url=https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/14926131.tributes-are-paid-to-york-publican-frank-cartin/ |access-date=2 August 2021 |work=The Press |date=25 November 2016}}</ref><ref>{{cite book|last=Coxon |first=Pete |title=York's Historic Inns |publisher=The Evening Press|location=York|year=1997|pages=63|isbn=0901793183}}</ref>
