James Young from ''Variety'' points out that the documentary adequately delves into the story of Enrique Metinides, although sometimes it runs out of references or visual material, it manages to remain relentless and serene to show the universe of artisanal and photographic pain.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2015-10-27 |title=Profile of Director Trisha Ziff and "The Man Who Saw Too Much" {{!}} Variety |url=http://variety.com/2015/film/festivals/mexico-up-next-trisha-ziff-1201626438/ |access-date=2023-05-19 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20151027181804/http://variety.com/2015/film/festivals/mexico-up-next-trisha-ziff-1201626438/ |archive-date=2015-10-27 }}</ref> Arturo Magaña from ''Cine'' ''Premiere'' calls this film a fantastic story that deserves to be seen and that is capable of building a character whose journalistic and photographic work was recognized, becoming a sample of the Mexican idiosyncrasy.<ref>{{Cite web |date=2022-05-15 |title=El hombre que vio demasiado {{!}} Película sobre Enrique Metinides {{!}} Crítica |url=https://www.cinepremiere.com.mx/el-hombre-que-vio-demasiado-pelicula-enrique-metinides.html |access-date=2023-05-19 |website=Cine PREMIERE |language=es}}</ref>
