'''The Kinison''' is a rock band formed in Oblong, Illinois, in 1999. The band is named after American comedian Sam Kinison.<ref name="maneater">{{cite web |last1=Richter |first1=Aaron |title=Maneater {{!}} On a first-name basis with The Kinison |url=https://www.themaneater.com/stories/arts/on-first-name-basis-kinison |website=www.themaneater.com |access-date=20 April 2021}}</ref>
==History== In late January 2002, the band headed to California in search of a new bass player and drummer. Initially, they hired bass player Tim Milhouse and drummer Mikey Rivera, both friends of their then manager Bill Fold. When Tim Milhouse left the band, they recruited bassist Frank Figueroa from a band called 401 Waterman. Frank played bass on the band's debut EP, ''Mortgage is Bank''. Soon after recording, Frank quit The Kinison to find work as a registered nurse. The trio soon recruited Mike V and Mikey to complete the band.{{when|date=April 2021}}{{citation needed|date=April 2021}}
After 9 months of playing tiny shows in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles area, they landed a spot on the indie rock festival This Ain't No Picnic. The band recorded an EP ''Mortgage Is Bank'' in September 2002 for Fearless Records. In 2003 The Kinison played at Coachella, a two-day music festival in Indio, California.<ref name="coachella_latimes">{{cite web |last1=Hilburn |first1=Robert |title=It's reigning in the desert |url=https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-apr-24-wk-covera24-story.html |website=Los Angeles Times |access-date=20 April 2021 |date=24 April 2003}}</ref> In late 2004, they were one of the support acts for Blink-182 on their DollaBill Tour.<ref>{{cite web |last1=Moss |first1=Corey |title=Blink-182 To Play Shows For A Buck |url=http://www.mtv.com/news/1479808/blink-182-to-play-shows-for-a-buck/ |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141123105416/http://www.mtv.com/news/1479808/blink-182-to-play-shows-for-a-buck/ |url-status=dead |archive-date=November 23, 2014 |website=MTV News |access-date=20 April 2021 |language=en}}</ref>
