In competitions for juniors or students, she finished ninth at the 2011 Summer Universiade and won the bronze medal at the 2012 NACAC U23 Championships.<ref name=bio>{{World Athletics|taryn-suttie-14267116}}</ref>

In 2015 she became Canadian champion for the first time,<ref name=bio/> and finished tenth at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.<ref name="a"/> In July 2016, she was officially named to Canada's Olympic team.<ref>{{cite news|first=Asif|last=Hossain|title=Athletics Canada nominates largest squad to Team Canada for Rio|url=http://olympic.ca/2016/07/11/athletics-canada-nominates-largest-squad-to-team-canada-for-rio/|publisher=Canadian Olympic Committee|date=11 July 2016|accessdate=11 July 2016}}</ref> She was knocked out in the qualifying round there, with the same thing happening at the 2017 World Championships.
