"'''Take One Last Breath'''" (formerly known as "'''Pedestrians Is Another Word for Speedbump'''") is a song by Canadian metalcore band Abandon All Ships. The single was released on iTunes on June 29, 2010,<ref>{{Cite web|title=Single Release/Discovered Airing/Ontario & US Tour|url=http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=92269184&blogId=536494485|website=MySpace|accessdate=28 August 2010|date=29 June 2010|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://archive.today/20120709135626/http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=92269184&blogId=536494485|archivedate=9 July 2012}}</ref> followed by the music video being released on June 30, where it premiered on MuchMusic.<ref name="MuchMusic">{{cite web|url=http://blog.muchmusic.com/in-their-own-words-abandon-all-ships/|title=In Their Own Words: Abandon All Ships|website=MuchMusic|date=June 29, 2010|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111129150430/http://blog.muchmusic.com/in-their-own-words-abandon-all-ships/|archivedate=November 29, 2011|access-date=April 2, 2024}}</ref>
==Background== At that time of release for their self-titled EP, "Take One Last Breath" was titled "Pedestrians Is Another Word for Speedbump".<ref name="Substream">{{cite web|url=http://www.substreammusicpress.com/Interviews/abandon-all-ships.html|title=Interview: Abandon All Ships|website=Substream Music Press|author=Bobby Goodwin|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110108165353/http://www.substreammusicpress.com/Interviews/abandon-all-ships.html|archivedate=January 8, 2011|access-date=April 2, 2024}}</ref> Angelo Aita explained that the song name was changed because the band "changed the song completely...so it's like a new name for a new song" and that Universal Music Canada, "wanted [Abandon All Ships] to shorten [the song title] because it was really long."<ref name="Substream"/>
The song was featured on Warped Tour's 2011 compilation album.<ref>{{cite magazine|url=https://exclaim.ca/music/article/warped_tour_unveils_2011_compilation_with_against_me_set_your_goals_attack_attack|title=Warped Tour Unveils 2011 Compilation with Against Me!, Set Your Goals, Attack Attack!|magazine=Exclaim!|author=Gregory Adams|date=May 10, 2011|access-date=April 2, 2024}}</ref>
==Composition== The song was written by the group prior to the release of their self-titled EP and was the second song they wrote.<ref name="Substream"/> The track was produced by Mark Spicoluk who also produced their debut studio album, ''Geeving''.<ref name="MuchMusic"/>
The differences between "Take One Last Breath" and "Pedestrians Is Another Word for Speedbump" are minor. A main difference is that "Take One Last Breath" is longer by 21 seconds, and does not include the synth patches from "Pedestrians" during the breakdown. The middle part of the song where is says "captain captain, before the sail rips" repeats three times in "Pedestrians", yet is said only twice in "Take One Last Breath", first "captain captain, before the sail rips", then "captain captain, I can see enemy ships" before repeating the first term. Lastly, "Pedestrians" does not repeat the chorus at the end, but simply ends with the breakdown.<ref name="Substream"/>
