'''''Stop Podcasting Yourself''''' is a Canadian comedy podcast distributed on the Maximum Fun network hosted by Graham Clark and Dave Shumka. Each week the comedy duo invites a guest (usually a fellow comedian) onto the program for a conversational interview. It is sometimes referred to by its acronym, '''SPY'''. The podcast is a three-time Canadian Comedy Award Winner for Best Podcast/Best Audio Show or Series,<ref name="Georgia Straight">{{cite news |last=Cranny|first=Jon|title=Local comedy podcast Stop Podcasting Yourself approaches 500th episode milestone |url=https://www.straight.com/blogra/950041/local-comedy-podcast-stop-podcasting-yourself-approaches-500th-episode-milestone |accessdate=6 October 2019 |publisher=The Georgia Straight|date=August 18, 2017}}</ref> winning the award in 2012, 2013 and 2014.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.canadiancomedyawards.org/archives.php?year=2013 |title=Nominations & Awards Archives: 2013 |publisher=Canadian Comedy Awards |accessdate=October 6, 2019 }}</ref><ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.canadiancomedyawards.org/archives.php?year=2014 |title=Nominations & Awards Archives: 2014 |publisher=Canadian Comedy Awards |accessdate=October 6, 2019 }}</ref><ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.canadiancomedyawards.org/archives.php?year=2012 |title=Nominations & Awards Archives: 2012 |publisher=Canadian Comedy Awards |accessdate=October 6, 2019 }}</ref>

==History== Stop Podcasting Yourself started independently on March 2, 2008, being distributed through iTunes and its blog. At the time, podcasting had not "sorted itself out yet". Originally, Clark and Shumka intended to do sketches on the show.<ref name="Beatroute">{{cite news |last=Wiggins|first=Graeme|title=Stop Podcasting Yourself Won't Stop Podcasting Themselves|url=http://beatroute.ca/2017/10/06/cant-wont-dont-stop-podcasting/ |accessdate=6 October 2019 |publisher=Beatroute|date=October 6, 2017}}</ref> Due to its early start in the world of podcasting, the show is considered a pioneer for comedy podcast chat shows.<ref name="Vulture">{{cite news |last=Jacobs|first=Noah|title='Stop Podcasting Yourself' and the Reliable Consistency of Podcasts|url=https://www.vulture.com/2016/12/stop-podcasting-yourself-and-the-reliable-consistency-of-podcasts.html |accessdate=6 October 2019 |publisher=Vulture|date=October 6, 2017}}</ref>

On March 22, 2010, it was announced that the Vancouver-based podcast would join Maximum Fun.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.maximumfun.org/2010/03/22/coming-soon-maximumfunorg-stop-podcasting-yourself |title=Coming Soon to MaximumFun.org: Stop Podcasting Yourself |publisher=Maximum Fun |date= |accessdate=November 10, 2015}}</ref>

On April 15, 2016, the hosts went on to sprout the podcast and album ''Our Debut Album''.

==Format== The podcast's segments include "Get to Know Us" (where they get to know the guest) and "Overheard", where they discuss humorous things they've overheard (or sometimes overseen) in their day-to-day lives. The podcast is released every Monday and is the only Canadian show on the Maximum Fun network.<ref name="Georgia Straight" /> Other than those two segments, the show has "little in the way of format". Despite this, the show has been described as having a consistent "tone, and speed ... whether the guest is a famous LA comedian, or a smaller local one".<ref name="Beatroute" /> The show is also consistent in releasing episodes. As of 2016, the show had only missed two weeks since debuting.<ref name="Vulture" />

The show is usually recorded at Shumka's home studio in Vancouver.<ref name="Courier">{{cite news |last=Zeschky|first=Jan|title=Stop Podcasting Yourself continues podcasting itself into 500th episode|url=https://www.vancourier.com/entertainment/stop-podcasting-yourself-continues-podcasting-itself-into-500th-episode-1.23061820 |accessdate=6 October 2019 |publisher=Vancouver Courier|date=October 12, 2017}}</ref> Its listeners are referred to as "bumpers" after Shumka mistakenly referred to the audience that way in episode 1.
