The parish church is a Grade I listed building dedicated to Saint James. It dates from the 11th century and is built of limestone. The tower dates from the 13th century. The vestry was added in the 19th century. The font is 14th-century, and there is a 17th-century oak chest. Built into the north wall of the chancel are two 13th-century grave slabs, one re-used in memory of John Bowfield, who died in 1730. There are two stained glass windows to the memory of the Rev Charles Hudson, vicar, killed on the Matterhorn in 1865.<ref>{{NHLE|num=1168300|desc=St James, Skillington|accessdate=13 August 2011}}</ref>
