'''Sims Bayou''' is a 23-mile (37 km) bayou that flows within Houston in a primarily west to east movement. Its origin is in Southwest Houston near Missouri City, Texas, and terminates in Manchester, Houston approximately seven miles east of Downtown Houston, where it feeds Buffalo Bayou as a major tributary. Unlike all other major Houston bayous, Sims Bayou is contained entirely within the city limits. It is a major watershed for the City of Houston.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/sims-bayou |title=Sims Bayou |publisher=Handbook of Texas |date=November 23, 2017 |access-date=June 7, 2024}}</ref>

Sims Bayou is believed to be named after Bartlett Samuel Sims—a member of the Old Three Hundred.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://d9-wret.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/assets/palladium/production/s3fs-public/media/files/Review%20List%20444_508.pdf |title=Quarterly Review List |publisher=United States Board on Geographic Names |date=July 6, 2021 |access-date=June 7, 2024}}</ref> From 1990 through 2012, the Galveston District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers performed a widening and deepening of the bayou to reduce flooding.<ref>{{cite press release |url=http://www.newsrouter.com/NewsRouter_Uploads/80/Sims_Bayou_Project_Notice_of_Final_Phase.pdf |title=Harris County Flood Control District Prepares for Last Phase of Sims Bayou Project |author=Saucier, Heather |publisher=Harris County Flood Control District |date=May 18, 2011 |access-date=June 7, 2024}}</ref> This allowed for new development in the southern portion of the city, and removed an estimated 35,000 homes and 2,000 commercial structures from a 100-year floodplain.

In 2016 the Houston Parks Board began a project to create trails and beautify areas along Sims Bayou.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/2016/10/13/173336/officials-break-ground-on-a-new-segment-of-the-bayou-greenways-2020-project/ |title=Officials Break Ground On New Segment Of The Bayou Greenways 2020 project |author=Ortiz, Alvaro |publisher=Houston Public Media |date=October 13, 2016 |access-date=June 7, 2024}}</ref>
