At the age of 16, Lin moved to Hong Kong Island with her mother after her parents' divorce and eventually lost contact with her father.<ref name=facemagazine/><ref name=parents/> She then transferred to West Island International School. Initially feeling misplaced, she gradually adapted to her new living environment and took on various jobs to become financially independent and support her mother.
