== Plot == Vijay returns to his village after his studies, much to the happiness of his parents. On his way, he meets Meena, sister of the local bigwig Ponnambalam. They start with constant conflicts over petty things, but at a point it gets serious where a couple of friends try to assault her - however Vijay comes in time to rescue her and beats them up, even though they are his friends. He does a bit of victim blaming and moral policing to Meena, saying she is dressing in a skimpy manner and that is why guys are misbehaving; and he also tells his friends that they were well intended but assaulting a woman is immoral. This makes her fall in love with Vijay. However, the village is very feudal and casteist and since Vijay belongs to a lower caste, it is opposed by the village head and as punishment for love - the panchayat subjects him to whip lashes from his own father. Unable to see Vijay in pain, Meena also whips herself, confirming their love.
Vijay's mother also discourages the love and says their family lost everything because of inter-caste marriage - and that is when Senthoorapandi, Vijay's elder brother is introduced in flashback. He is in love with Marikozhundhu, a woman from a higher caste and was opposed by her family, but fully supported by Senthoorapandi's family. He marries her but on the same night, her relatives kill Marikozhundhu to save the family's "honour" and in rage, Senthoorapandi kills her relatives and surrenders to the police. So Vijay's mother says that she lost one son to love, does not want to lose the other.
However, they continue and the village sentences Vijay and his parents to death by burying alive - but just then Senthoorapandi is released from prison and he saves them on time - and fully endorses Vijay's love and promises to unite the two lovers. The villagers were looking for a saviour from the atrocities of Ponnambalam and recognise Senthoorapandi as the new village head. Ponnambalam tries to arrange his sister's wedding in another town but Senthoorapandi using his goodwill, goes to the wedding venue - and challenges the groom to face Vijay in a competition - and the winner can marry Meena. Vijay wins and the groom's family agrees.
Just when Vijay and Meena are to get married, to prevent their marriage, Ponnambalam kills the father of Vijay and Senthoorapandi - however as a dying wish, their father expresses to get the wedding done at all costs to Senthoorapandi. Unknown that their father is dead, the wedding goes ahead - but at the stroke of wedding, Vijay says he wants the nuptial thread to be given to him by his father - but Senthoorapandi confesses that Ponnambalam had killed him and he had dressed his father and brought him to the venue but it is a corpse. Vijay and Meena marry amidst tears, while Ponnambalam makes one last fight against Senthoorapandi, where he kills Ponnambalam, and Senthoorapandi surrenders to the police again, blessing Vijay and Meena to lead a good life and take good care of their mother.
