Fauth was born and raised in Calgary, where he played rugby for the Hornets club.<ref>{{cite news |last1=Gordon |first1=Sean |title=Camaraderie |url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/485587520 |work=Calgary Herald |date=July 25, 1996}}</ref> He competed in varsity rugby at Queen's University in the early 1990s and while based on the west coast played with Castaway Wanderers.<ref>{{cite news |title=World's best collide at Queen's |url=https://www.queensjournal.ca/worlds-best-collide-at-queens/ |work=The Queen's Journal |date=May 29, 2001}}</ref>

A winger, Fauth was a Canada international representative from 2000 to 2003, gaining 29 caps. He scored a try in both of Canada's matches in their two-Test series against England in 2001.
