In 1945 the paper closed its own print shop and was instead printed by the ''Minatare Free Press'' newspaper (in nearby Minatare), although Westervelt continued as editor. Following the death of Westervelt in 1950, his son, John M. "Kim" Westervelt, became editor. By late 1964, circulation of both the ''Minatare Free Press'' and ''Scottsbluff Republican'' was so low that the papers were no longer profitable and it was decided to end their publication.<ref name=LincolnJournal_article_1964/> The final issue of the ''Scottsbluff Republican'' was dated November 19, 1964.<ref>{{cite news |last=Scofield |first=Vern |date=December 30, 1964 |title=Newspaper Circulation In State Is Nearly The Same, Says New Directory |page=8 |url=http://sidneypl.advantage-preservation.com/viewer/?i=f&by=1964&bdd=1960&bm=12&bd=30&d=12301964-12301964&fn=sidney_telegraph_usa_nebraska_sidney_19641230_english_8&df=1&dt=10 |work=Sydney Telegraph |location=Lincoln |access-date=September 21, 2019}}</ref>
