Sayumi Michishige, former member of J-pop idol group Morning Musume, was named after Horie by her father.<ref>According to Michishige (on the Youngtown Saturday radio show) her father was a fan of NHK announcer Sayumi Horie and so, hoping his own daughter would grow to resemble Horie, decided to name her Sayumi.</ref>
