== Early life == Rafaela grew up with her Jewish Dutch-Curaçaoan mother in Uitgeest. Her father was of Ghanaian-Nigerian descent and a practicing Muslim. Rafaela was the Co-Chair of the Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup in the European Parliament.
