Located in the Shevchenkivskyi District of Kyiv, the square lies in front of Saint Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. It is located about {{cvt|300|m|ft|-2}} northeast of Sophia Square, to which it is connected by {{ill|Volodymyrskyi Passage|uk|Володимирський проїзд}}, and about {{cvt|450|m|ft|-2}} northwest of Maidan Nezalezhnosti, to which it is connected by {{ill|Michael Street|uk|Михайлівська вулиця (Київ)}}.

On the square is {{ill|Princess Olha Monument|lt=a monument|uk|Пам'ятник княгині Ользі (Київ)}} to Princess Olha, Andrew the Apostle, and Saints Cyril and Methodius. There is {{ill|Holodomor Victims Memorial (Saint Michael's Square)|lt=a memorial|uk|Пам'ятний знак жертвам Голодомору 1932—1933 років (Київ, Михайлівська площа)}} to the victims of the Holodomor in front of the monastery. Also, one of the monastery's external walls bordering the square serves as The Wall of Remembrance of the Fallen for Ukraine, a Russo-Ukrainian War memorial.
