'''Snes9x''' is a Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator software with official ports for MS-DOS, Linux, Microsoft Windows, AmigaOS 4, macOS, MorphOS, Xbox, PSP, PS3, GameCube, Wii, iOS, and Android.<ref>{{cite web |title=Ports |url=https://github.com/snes9xgit/snes9x/wiki/Ports |website=Snes9x Github Wiki |accessdate=14 July 2018 |via=GitHub}}</ref> Windows RT and Windows Phone 8 have an unofficial port named Snes8x.

==Background==

Development of ''Snes9x'' began in July 1997 when Gary Henderson's Snes96 and Jerremy Koot's Snes97 emulators merged to create Snes9x. ''Snes9x'' was among the first to emulate most SNES enhancement chips at some level.{{Citation needed|date=June 2011}} In version 1.53, it added support for Cg shaders.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.snes9x.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?p=29951#p29951 |website=snes9x.com |title=Snes9x 1.53 changelog |date=2011-04-25 |accessdate=2022-05-22}}</ref> Version 1.55 added support for the MSU1 enhancement chip <ref>{{Cite web |url=https://www.snes9x.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?t=24351 |title=Snes9x 1.55 |website=snes9x.com |language=en-gb |date=2017-11-20 |access-date=2022-05-28}}</ref> found on the SD2SNES <ref>{{Cite web |url=https://krikzz.com/store/home/27-sd2snes.html |title=SD2SNES - EverDrive Store |website=EverDrive Store |language=en-us |access-date=2018-01-21}}</ref>
