==Life and ministry== He was born in Birkenhead in Cheshire in 1880, the son of Edward and Matilda Darbyshire,<ref>National Archives, 1901 England Census, reference RG 13/650</ref> and educated at Dulwich College and Emmanuel College, Cambridge.<ref>{{acad|id=DRBR899JR|name=Darbyshire, John Russell}}</ref> Ordained deacon in 1904 and priest in 1905,<ref>Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941</ref> his first post was as a Curate at St Andrew the Less, Cambridge<ref>[http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/CAM/Cambridge/StAndrewtheLess/index.html Genuki]</ref> after which he was Vice-Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge. Later he was Vicar of St Luke, Liverpool then a Canon Residentiary at Manchester Cathedral.
