==Biography== Kehrer was born in Tiflis, Georgia (later Tbilisi, Georgia) to a family of piano-makers who had emigrated from Swabia.<ref name="Forster">{{cite news |last=Forster |first=Meret |date=2013 |title=Verbannt für dreizehn entscheidende Jahre – Die ungewöhnliche Laufbahn des Pianisten Rudolf Kehrer |url=https://www.nmz.de/artikel/verbannt-fuer-dreizehn-entscheidende-jahre |work=neue musikzeitung |location=Regensburg |language=de |access-date=23 September 2020}}</ref> He was a solo pianist of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and professor at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory.<ref name="Forster" /> In 1961, he won the All-Union Contest.<ref name="Forster" /> Kehrer was long known only in Eastern bloc countries, as he was denied the opportunity to travel freely.<ref name="Forster" /> His recording career lasted for over 40 years (1961–2001) in many diverse locations.
