Rollo started as a trainee with Plymouth Argyle, making his debut on 23 December 1922 against Watford,<ref>[http://www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-players2.asp?pid=424&scp=1,2,3,4,5,6,7 Greens on Screen profile (including photo)]</ref> before moving north to join Bolton Wanderers for £1500,<ref name=bwh/> where his brother was playing.
