Graham Campbell was born in London, the son of Rollo F. Graham-Campbell.<ref>{{Cite newspaper The Times |title=Births|date=20 February 1903 |page=1 |issue=37009}}</ref> He was educated at Eton<ref>''Who was Who'' 1897–2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 {{ISBN|978-0-19-954087-7}}</ref> and King's College, Cambridge, and after a period of study at Cuddesdon College was ordained deacon in 1926 and priest in 1927.<ref>Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941</ref> His career began with a curacy of St John, Middlesbrough.<ref>[https://www.flickr.com/photos/bolckow/sets/72157604259101548/ Photos of church]</ref> Next he was an Assistant Master at his old school and then Vicar of St Paul's, King Cross.<ref>[http://www.stpaulskingcross.co.uk/ Church web site]</ref> From 1942 until 1948 he was Fellow, Dean and Chaplain of his old college.
